Men: Sugar Could Make You Less Manly

Most people have a sweet tooth. It's the ultimate comfort food. But, that candy bar could make you less manly. A new study claims glucose, i.e. sugar, decreases testosterone levels.

Presented at the Endocrine Society's Annual Meeting, researchers found that of the 74 men tested, 73 had significantly lower levels of testosterone two hours after being administered glucose.

New Study Shows Daily Sex Can Increase Sperm Count

New research reported at this week's meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction found that men with a history of fertility problems can improve their sperm count by having sex every day. The problem is that recent surveys show that a startling number of Americans are NOT having sex: 40 million live in no-sex, low-sex relationships and 43 percent of men report some form of sexual inadequacy.

Think that statistics refer to men past their prime? Think again. This downhill trend in sexual desire, performance and pleasure is increasingly occurring in younger 20-something and 30-something men. According to Genie James, M.M.Sc., Executive Director of The Natural Hormone Institute, "Environmental hormones are a very real culprit sabotaging both a man's sex life and his sperm count."

Relating to middle-age by Dr. Jeffrey Low

I am middle-aged. In September, I will be 54 years old. Statistically that is actually just about the end of the middle part of my life, and entering into the final stage. An Australian man lives an average of 82 years. Divided into beginning, middle and end, each section would be 27 1/3 years. Given my health history, I would be more than happy to accept a guarantee of living to age 82, so it seems logical that I must accept that my middle age is just about over.

Not so fast. Sure, when I was 18 I would have accepted that 55 was old. I’m from the “never trust anyone over 30” generation. I sang along to The Who’s call of “Hope I die before I get old”. But now that the time is here, I find that I, and seemingly most of my fellow boomers, find it hard to accept the realities of aging. A 65-year-old friend of mine recently said to me the he considered himself middle-aged. Apparently he expects to live 130 years.

Partially it’s the words that are difficult to accept. We go from young, to middle-aged, to old. I suppose senior citizen isn’t quite as bad, and I personally like the idea of being a village elder, but there’s a basic problem with all of them: They remind us we’re closer to the end than the beginning, and that stinks.

Malaysian authorities seize 'Viagra coffee'
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's health authorities have seized over 20,000 dollars worth of coffee mixed with sildenafil, the main ingredient in erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, a report said Sunday.

"The coffee mixture had been distributed in sachets nationwide," an official was quoted as saying by the New Sunday Times newspaper. "Officers found 900 boxes containing more than 9,000 sachets of the coffee mixture which retailed for more than 80 ringgit ($43) per box," the officer added without naming the coffee brand in question.

Enforcement officials said the coffee was mixed with sildenafil to "perk up" drinkers beyond the usual stimulation provided by caffeine.

Feminists Bash Men About Their Male Sexual Performance
A fiery debate has long raged in the medical profession on whether male menopause actually exists and what, if any, is its effect on male sexual performance. The questions are many. If it really does exist, at what age will it begin to affect their sexual performance?

First of all, we know for a fact that the male menopause does exist.  It’s a no-brainer that men go through sexuality changes as they age, just as women do. The erection-on-demand performance they enjoyed as teens is no longer the case at age forty.

Little by little as they age, men begin to notice changes in their sexual performance as the urge for sex also lessens. 

As they age, it takes longer for men to get an erection to come on and the penis requires more direct stimulation to get and stay aroused. The erection may also be angled, rather than straight and rigid and ejaculation may not be as forceful. Also, the time it takes between erections gets longer.

ScienceDaily (June 22, 2009) — Couples' treatment for sexual problems and other innovative approaches to improving sexual health for men and women are on the agenda of sexual medicine experts.

"This is a fun time to be involved in this," says Dr. Ronald Lewis, impotence expert, chief of the Section of Urology at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and newly elected president-elect of the 300-member Sexual Medicine Society of North America.

"We are gaining a more comprehensive perspective on the causes, effects and potential treatment of sexual dysfunction," says Dr. Lewis who is organizing the society's spring scientific meeting.

Older People May Be Immune to Swine Flu

Older adults might have some pre-existing immunity to H1N1 swine flu, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Lab tests showed that some adults, particularly those older than 60, had antibodies against the new strain, but Dr. Anne Schuchat of the CDC cautioned against reading too much into the finding.

Premature ejaculation gene found

Men who suffer from premature ejaculation may be able to blame their genes, work suggests.

A study of nearly 200 Dutch men found those who climaxed too soon during intercourse had a version of a gene that controls the hormone serotonin.

Men with this version ejaculated twice as quickly as other men in the study.

In a study that followed nearly 1,000 older Finnish men for five years, researchers found that those who were regularly having sex at the start of the study were at lower risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED) by the study's end.
