Men: Sugar Could Make You Less Manly

Most people have a sweet tooth. It's the ultimate comfort food. But, that candy bar could make you less manly . A new study claims glucose, i.e. sugar, decreases testosterone levels .

Presented at the Endocrine Society's Annual Meeting, researchers found that of the 74 men tested, 73 had significantly lower levels of testosterone two hours after being administered glucose.

The participants included 42 men with normal glucose tolerance, 23 with impaired glucose tolerance (or pre-diabetes), and 9 who had been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Scientists point out results did not differ even with changes in insulin levels.

This data supports the idea that men found to have low testosterone levels should be reevaluated in the fasting state."
